Mackie Designs Inc. Announces Second Quarter Earnings

July 15, 1998 – Woodinville, Wash. – Mackie Designs Inc. (Nasdaq: MKIE) today announced revenues and earnings for second quarter ended June 30, 1998. Revenues for the second quarter were $18.2 million, compared with $18.7 million for the comparable quarter in 1997. Net income for the quarter was $1.3 million, or $0.10 per share, compared with net income of $1.4 million, or $0.11 per share, in the second quarter of 1997.

"We came in slightly short of analyst expectations for the quarter, due to later shipping of the Digital 8•Bus than we planned," commented Chief Operating Officer Roy Wemyss. "I am pleased to confirm, however, that we began shipping Mackie's Digital 8•Bus in small quantities in late June, and plan to accelerate shipments through July.

"The Digital 8•Bus positions Mackie into new markets and establishes our presence in the rapidly growing digital markets in the professional audio industry," Wemyss continued.
