Mackie Introduces the SP-DSP Add-In Option Card

March 6, 2001 – Orlando, FL, NSCA Expo – Mackie Designs Inc. (Nasdaq: MKIE), today introduced the SP-DSP Add-In Option Card for the Sound Palette Series SP-2400 and 1200 controller amplifiers.

This is the first of what will be a series of optional add in cards designed to take advantage of the internal option slots in the Mackie Industrial SP Series controller amplifiers. The SP-DSP features an onboard 32 bit DSP along with an all new algorithm designed to be used as an ambient noise level sensing and program level control option. The all new algorithm was designed to offer the highest performance in sensing ambient noise but at the same time rejecting what is program material through a series of high-speed calculations. The unit dynamically samples both noise and program material within the room and automatically and dynamically adjusts the music gain to always override the ambient noise. This algorithm and circuit differs sharply from other available solutions in that for the first time a product with this level of sophistication is available on the DSP platform.

The SP-DSP also includes an adaptive intelligence which allows it to be fully self-calibrating, but also gives the professional installer access to all parameters for fine tuning or adjusting to a specific application. Mackie Industrial has also developed application software to control the SP-DSP from any of the popular hand-held organizers using the Palm 3.0 OS.

Costa Lakoumentas, Director of Mackie Industrial, who is heading up Mackie's focus on the U.S. contractor market states, "Never before has this level of sophistication been available in ambient noise analysis at a price anywhere near what the SP-DSP will cost. The Mackie Industrial SP-DSP will be a fraction of the cost of other conventional ambient noise analysis systems presently on the market, but it will be a quantum leap ahead of everything else because of it's sophistication and the use of DSP."

This Mackie Industrial product has a patent pending, and is covered by an exclusive, one-time NO FAULT repair policy in addition to a three-year limited warranty.
