Mackie Designs' EAW Loudspeakers Featured in Advanced New Sound System at Dodger Stadium

April 12, 2001 – Woodinville, WA – Mackie Designs Inc. (NASDAQ:MKIE) announced today that its Eastern Acoustic Works (EAW) subsidiary provided all of the loudspeakers for the advanced new sound system introduced on Opening Day at 56,000-seat Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

"The goal of this project was to provide the fans at Dodger Stadium with a new sound system that would enhance the park's legendary status. We wanted to make Nancy Bea's organ and Mike Carlucci's player introductions sound better than ever, and we wanted to improve the auditory experience for fans with a state-of-the-art production control system. The new EAW loudspeakers were critical to achieving the high-quality sound we hoped for," said Steve Shull, project manager and principal with the acoustic design firm Acoustic Dimensions, Dallas.

The renovation project's primary focus was replacement of the outdated outfield speaker clusters with a new EAW KF900-based system. Incorporating new center, left and right field effects clusters, the full-range music and voice system employs 12 KF910s, 12 KF920s and 12 KF940s.

"The left and right field effects clusters are primarily intended to allow ping pong and panning of sound effects and organ music across the entire stadium. With the old system, all sound appeared to come from just the center field cluster. We added supplemental delay speakers to some areas under the first seating deck in extreme left and right fields, areas that formerly had not gotten enough direct energy from the center cluster. We also installed pavilion speakers in the outfield bleachers where fans have gotten short shrift in the past," Shull added.
